What does a PR Agency do? The Lincoln Ribbon Cutting

What does a PR Agency do? The Lincoln Ribbon Cutting

November 23, 2015January 31, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Case Studies, Clairemont Client NewsApartments, award winning PR, Cause for Paws, Cause for Paws NC, downtown Raleigh, The Lincoln Apartments

When you think of a ribbon cutting, chances are you picture giant scissors and the stuffy old red ribbon from Grandpa’s closet. At Clairemont, we’re always searching for new ways to add creativity to our client work. So naturally, as the agency for The Lincoln Apartments grand opening events, the Clairemont team put our heads together to come up with a fun way to welcome The Lincoln to downtown Raleigh that would also capture attention from local media.

The Lincoln is a new 224-unit residential apartment community situated in the rapidly changing Moore Square neighborhood in Downtown Raleigh and offers studio, one and two-bedroom apartments, lofts and townhouses. Residents have access to amenities including a fitness room and yoga studio, a courtyard swimming pool, enclosed parking with electric car chargers, interior bike storage and a pet spa. Since The Lincoln is one of the few downtown Raleigh complexes that is pet friendly, we decided to highlight that amenity and partner with a local pet organization and nonprofit, Cause for Paws of NC, for the ribbon cutting.

On September 10, 2015, The Lincoln Apartments celebrated its official grand opening with a ribbon-cutting event in the afternoon and a cocktail party in the evening. Both were designed to engage key influencers and members from our target demographic to experience The Lincoln Lifestyle, positioning The Lincoln as the premiere urban living development in downtown Raleigh.

The grand opening began with a ribbon-cutting event that featured the president of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, city council members and other prominent Raleigh officials. After the dignitaries made remarks about The Lincoln and its positive impact on the Moore Square District, Molly, our canine ambassador from Cause for Paws, “cut” the ribbon by chewing through a treat.

The event doubled as a fundraiser for Cause for Paws of NC with “Tag, You’re It!” a photo relay where  The Lincoln donated $5 to Cause for Paws of NC for each who participated. By simply snapping a photo of the person to the left, sharing it on any social media channel and tagging #TheLincolnRaleigh and #CauseforPawsNC, participants helped Triangle dogs and cats who need homes.

This approach generated excitement about The Lincoln and garnered news coverage on ABC11 and News 14, which, in turn, helped boost exposure for Cause for Paws.

Ever wonder how foodies take such fabulous photos of mouth-watering, scrumptious-looking plates? In this case, a little teamwork makes the dream work. Check out Trish Witek’s photo of food bloggers collaborating on how to get the best shot at Il Palio’s (client) VIP foodie dinner. As one food blogger shines an iPhone flashlight onto the dish, another friend zooms in on his camera for the perfect (well-lit!) shot.

As a strategy to engage key influencers in an ever-changing food industry and to highlight the grand reopening of the restaurant, Il Palio hosted 16 of the Triangle’s leading food bloggers for a special, four-course dinner event.

REI’s Bold Move: Brand Suicide?

REI’s Bold Move: Brand Suicide?

November 19, 2015January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Marketingbrand makeover, branding strategy, consumer PR, media coverage, pr strategy, retail PR, strong brand

Recently, REI rocked the internet with its shocking holiday announcement: not only will the retailer remain closed on Thanksgiving, it won’t open on Black Friday. At all.

Commentaries from heavy hitters like Forbes, CNN Money and USA Today grappled with the impact of this corporate decision. Why would any exec in his or her right mind voluntarily sacrifice the sales from one of the largest shopping days of the year? And what about the brand’s life-long loyalists? REI runs the risk of frustrating its core customer base and losing sales not just on Black Friday but into perpetuity.

But a closer look reveals a pay off in REI’s brand strategy.

1. The Right Timing

First, the rule that touts “location, location, location” should actually promote “timing, timing, timing.” For visibility, REI couldn’t have selected a more prominent day. A chain of only 143 stores is by no means a Fortune 500 powerhouse, but yet with that one decision, REI garnered nationwide attention from almost every major news outlet. The sheer juxtaposition of expectation versus execution hooked the media.

2. The Right Reasons

REI applied a foundational marketing principle that may increase brand value over time. According to Fast Company, the top thing that customers want from a brand is not good service or quality products. Consumers want honesty. They crave a company that livesJerry Stritzke quote about REI's brand strategy out its values—a concept known as brand authenticity.

REI is closing its doors to encourage its employees (and fans) to enjoy the outdoors, a principle upon which the company was founded. In theory, true REI fans will recognize this gesture as a valid commitment to core values, including an active, healthy lifestyle. The behavior matches the promise; this must be a brand I can trust. And since brand trust positively correlates to purchase intention, REI may even make up those lost sales–and then some–in the next few quarters.

3. The Right Execution?

So far, so good. The CEO and president, Jerry Stritzke, nailed the talking points in interviews. Feedback on social media has proved to be largely supportive, and the website’s count of #OptOutdoor supporters climbs by the minute. REI even provides options for outdoor activities—albeit far from comprehensive—to foster options. With tweet to REI about Black Fridaygoodwill stockpiled, REI now must execute and leverage its brand strategy. Photos and visuals of staff enjoying the outdoors on Friday or a welcome-back experience for refreshed fans on Saturday would seal the deal and drive home the message.

Let’s watch how REI navigates its bold commitment that will either boost (or blow) its popularity. Tweet us your thoughts @clairemontcomm.

Can you imagine a life without Google? Think about it. How many times a day do you Google something? You probably know that Google is the largest search engine, but did you know that it owns the second-largest search engine, too – YouTube?  Today, we’re talking with PR guru Martin Waxman about this search engine powerhouse and how Google search is impacting PR and marketing.

Oh Momma Monday: Tori Fox, Barre3

Oh Momma Monday: Tori Fox, Barre3

November 16, 2015January 31, 2023 Tracy LathanBlog, In Our Community, Oh Momma Monday, Owning a Businessbusiness PR, entrepreneurship PR, Marketing, professional development

We are fortunate to live in a community with so many inspiring female business owners, entrepreneurs, bloggers and professionals. What I find truly amazing is that many of these women are also running households and raising young children. I, for one, am always looking for tips on how working moms are able to juggle everything. So during the next few months, Oh Momma Monday will be sharing a view into the lives of some of these busy women. Hopefully, something you read here inspires you!

Tori Fox wears many hats – entrepreneur, business owner, wife, mother of two young girls, motivator. In the spring of 2014, Tori opened Barre3 Raleigh-Five Points and since day one has been changing the lives, bodies and minds of women across the Triangle. Her positive energy is infectious – I was hooked after the first class! We were able to catch up with Tori to find out what inspired her to start her business and how she manages to maintain a healthy balance.

What is your occupation/business?

Owner, Barre3 Raleigh – Five Points

What inspired you to start your own business?

I knew what I wanted didn’t exist in Raleigh. So it was up to me to get it here. In a word – passion.

How has your career/professional life changed since becoming a mom?

It’s a lot more challenging to have a career once children enter the picture. I stayed at home until my youngest daughter was two and my oldest was five. If I’m perfectly honest, I have a lot of guilt when I’m working because I’m not with my kids and guilt when I’m with my kids that I have so much work to do. However, I wouldn’t trade either for the world. It just requires a lot of juggling.

Any tips for juggling work and motherhood?

I’m really working on being more present…present when I’m at work and present when I’m with my kids. It helps with the aforementioned guilt. Additionally, we live by the calendar.

Most important thing motherhood has taught you…

To appreciate the little things. My girls notice everything and often we must stop whatever we are doing (whether we are late or not) to admire things. Sometimes you just have to stop, take a breath and look at the beautiful things around you.

family2 crop

Describe your personal style.

Ah, I love jeans, comfy flats and soft t-shirts, but you usually find me in work-out clothes.

What is your philosophy regarding healthy eating/lifestyle?

Moderation! I do not deprive myself of my favorite comfort foods, but I don’t over indulge. We eat organic fruits, vegetables and meats whenever possible. We stay away from dairy (except my husband) unless it’s too good to pass up.

Obviously, I love exercise. In addition to teaching Barre3, I take it. Nothing feels as great as a sore tush. I love a great run, and I’m also exploring yoga these days.

What is a favorite place you have visited or trip you have taken?

Positano, Italy. The culture is so easy going, the scenery is breath-taking and the food is fresh, local and delicious.

What do you enjoy doing when you have down time? (Does that ever really happen?)

Sleep! Ha. Seriously, my favorite thing is travel.

What are your favorite Raleigh hotspots?

My husband and I really enjoyed Death and Taxes. You’ll find me at b.good Raleigh 3-5 times a week grabbing lunch. I love Glenwood Grill bar for dinner with my good friend. The bartender, Chad, is the best. Umstead Spa. Acupuncture at Bloom Integrative Health. Dr. Dishman is fabulous!

What are three of your “faves” right now?

Harvest Kale Salad at b.good Raleigh-add chicken and avocado, Rag n Bone Boyfriend Jeans (thank you, Style Hawk) and playing “Spot it” with my kids before bed. Gracie is finally old enough to participate.

For an inside look at other inspirational moms, check out these previous Oh Momma Monday posts.
