On the Record: NCPRSA Seminar & Awards

Ask anyone in PR, and they will tell you they welcome the opportunity to work with a client year after year. It allows us to get to really get to know our clients and their expectations and become embedded with their cultures, brands and products.

However, it can also come with the challenge of keeping it fresh. How do you sustain a multi-year campaign when the event or message is the same every year? That’s the question The North Carolina Public Relations Society of America is facing after 10 years of hosting its annual seminar and awards banquet.

Let’s go On the Record to find out what changes are taking place this year with NCPRSA’s seminar and awards programs.

Several times in recent weeks, I have heard someone say, “Twitter is dead.” In the spirit of full disclosure, while I have not fully embraced the social media channel on a personal level, I do see how it can be a valuable tool. And while I’m not sure I agree that Twitter is dead, I do believe it  has evolved over the past 10 years.

For this installment of On the Record, I decided to take a closer look at how Twitter can be used for PR initiatives.

How often do you find yourself wishing you had more hours in the day? I’m guessing quite often, and you’re not alone. This phrase is often muttered when someone is experiencing a sense of motivation, but quickly becomes frustrated because they are over committed and do not have time to do all that they want to do.

I recently had the opportunity to hear Tracey Gritz, productivity expert and owner of the Efficient Office, speak at an NCPRSA professional development luncheon. She discussed steps you can take to regain control and spend your valuable time on the work that really matters so that you end your day feeling energized instead of drained. Let’s go On the Record to learn some helpful tips to improve your quality of life through productivity.

Shrinking newsrooms. It’s something PR professionals have been battling for years, and news opportunities only seem to be getting slimmer. Two and a half years ago, Chris Schroder, president of SPR in Atlanta, started the 100 Companies and the Atlanta 100 as a way to help spread the word about PR and content marketing in a model appropriate for shrinking newsrooms.

Chuck Norman, owner and principal of S&A Communications, launched the North Carolina 100 in April. Let’s go On the Record to learn more about the project and how it works.

On the Record: Lost in Translation

Can you believe texting has been around for more than 20 years? From pressing numbers on the dialpad to form a word (that was guessed by your phone) to the qwerty keyboard and now the smartphone, texting has come a long way over the decades, and it’s no wonder that it is now more popular than ever.

In fact, according to Pew Internet, texting is the most widely and frequently used app on a smartphone with 97 percent of Americans using it at least once a day. And check out these figures: 8.3 trillion text messages were sent last year alone. That’s 23 billion texts a day or nearly 16 million messages a minute!

Text messaging is now being viewed as a powerful way for businesses to connect with their customers, but it’s not without its drawbacks. Let’s go On the Record to explore how to make sure your text message isn’t lost in translation.
