#MajorKey: DJ Khaled Inspires My PR

#MajorKey: DJ Khaled Inspires My PR

March 28, 2016January 31, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Public Relations, Social Media + Influencer Engagementcreative PR agency, Dj Khaled, food pr, Marketing, PR, snapchat, Snapchat Story

I recently discovered DJ Khaled’s Snapchat. If you’ve never heard of DJ Khaled, he is on almost every single rap song. Ever. He even yells his name at the beginning of most of his anthems, like “All I Do Is Win”.

On his Snapchat story, the multi-millionare takes us step-by-step through his entire day. He is always on “the pathway of more success” and uses funny, motivational slogans that serve to empower his followers. He recently started using “keys” that – interestingly enough – inspire my own career as a PR practitioner.

Key One: Chef Dee

Every morning, Khaled walks around his mansion and blurts out, “ChefChef Dee Dee, what you got cookin’ for me today?” His personal chef answers by listing all the healthy meal options that she has prepared for breakfast. DJ Khaled explains that “they don’t want us to eat healthy, so we must eat healthy.” He never tells us who “they” is, but I assume he is referring to negative-minded people.

Although I am not making major million-dollar deals like Khaled his simple key to success still rings true for me. He reminds us that eating a healthy, balanced meal helps to start the workday off on the right note. Starting with a full stomach increases my productivity and helps my creative juices flow for our clients.

Key Two: DJ Khaled Gets Lost At Sea

Who else dreams of having the luxury to jet ski all day? I do. While I was swooning over the lavish lifestyle that the music guru lives, something hilarious happened. Khaled got lost in the ocean on his jet ski.

As funny as it sounds, this is also a “major key” to my career in PR and at Clairemont. We have all faced a time where we were so overwhelmed we felt lost. Khaled teaches that “the key is to never give up, to win more.”

How can we use this lesson in agency life? Don’t be afraid to ask your team members or colleagues for help or support. I have found that it’s always beneficial to ask for help when needed so that you don’t get lost at sea with your projects.

If you need a giggle, watch the entire “Lost at Sea” Snapchat.

Key Three: Business is Always Boomin’

Ben, a 16 year-old that we know absolutely nothing more about than his name, appears regularly on the mogul’s Snapchat story debuting the hottest new sneaker trends. When Ben is asked, “How’s business?” The simple yet dramatic reply is always, “BOOMIN’.” Ben

How can we keep business boomin’? First, I make sure that I know and clearly understand our clients’ goals and needs. What are they trying to accomplish as a business? What does success look like to them? I keep business boomin’ by staying connected with client contacts and working to develop a reliable, open relationship with them, working in tandem to meet these goals.

Key Four: Elliptical talk

If you have ever seen a photo of Khaled, you know he isn’t a particularly skinny man. Recently, he has taken health and wellness to another level on his elliptical.

Elliptical talk is a “major key to success” for the star. We see him in his home gym on an actual machine exercising and reciting lyrics to some of the week’s hottest songs. How does this translate to our industry?

Khaled reminds us that we have to cultivate our best selves in order to help others. If we aren’t in shape (mentally and physically), we can’t secure top media placements and create top-notch client campaigns. The Clairemont team expands our knowledge by watching webinars and attending luncheons. On Well Wednesday, our team trades its business dresses for yoga pants in the office, this allows us to go for a run or attend a boxing class when our schedules allow. Get on your “elliptical to success” and create a positive-minded person so that your clients can’t imagine a day without you.

Copy Cat: Octopus Bowl

Copy Cat: Octopus Bowl

March 14, 2016January 31, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Copy CatAgency, bowl, copy cat, Creative copy, octopus, Raleigh PR Agency, ZGalllerie

I love the work that we do for our clients. Have I mentioned that before on the blog?

A few days ago, while prepping for the Charleston Wine and Food Festival for our client Il Palio, I found myself thinking a lot about octopus – and no, on this occasion it wasn’t Chef Teddy’s grilled octopus. I was trying to figure out the best way to create an octopus-themed table at the festival to showcase Chef Teddy’s amazing grilling skills for such an interesting dish. I ran across this octopus bowl on Zgallerie and could not resist it, but the inventive copy was the very best part of the page – maybe even the best part of my day.

“Entertain in high style with our sea life inspired Octopus bowl. Fill with your favorite bottled beverages making the perfect statement for a festive fete. For decorative distinction, the piece has been finished in a silver hue, showcasing the multi-dimensional characteristics of the grandiose eight-legged marine animal. For ease of use, the bowl dispenser has been designed to be easily removed from its octopus base for refilling or cleaning. Crafted out of aluminum.”

Initially, I was merely doing research for Il Palio, but I gradually discovered my new love for this octopus vessel. I wanted one for my house because of the words that were listed on the website. I wanted to entertain in high style with my octopus bowl filled with San Pellegrino to make a perfect statement at my next festive fete. Wait, I’m not planning a “festive fete” anytime soon.

The most amazing part of this entire search is that prior to reading the copy I didn’t have the personal desire to purchase an octopus bowl. I don’t need an octopus bowl. I wanted it because of the way that it was written by Zgallerie! I bet this post has you planning your next party with this grandiose eight-legged marine animal!

What is the plural of Octopus? Octopi? Octopuses? Who knew Octopi would be such a big deal at Clairemont? Our client, Il Palio is attending the Charleston Wine and Food Festival and is planning to feature their specialty dish, grilled octopi. So what’s better than a grilled Octopus on a warm day in Charleston? Spotting an Octocow on the way to afternoon meeting in Durham! Yes, believe it or not we spotted this in the parking lot while making our way to a meeting!

Emojis vs. Emoticons

Emojis vs. Emoticons

February 29, 2016January 31, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Marketing, Public Relationscommunication trends, creative PR agency, emojis, emoticons, imessage, Social Media, text message, trends

A few days ago, Facebook released a new way to share your emotions on posts. You can now select from five emojis ranging from love to sad. CEO Mark Zuckerberg claims that the Facebook community has been asking for a dislike button for years, but he wanted to showcase a variety of emotions. To see the new reactions options, hold down the like button and then tap either like, love, haha, wow, sad or angry.

How do you feel about Facebook’s newest change? Were you really hoping for a dislike button, or do the new additions have you seeing the heart-eyed emoji?

What does this all mean for emoticons? Well, nothing. That’s because emojis and emoticons are two different things and using the two terms interchangeably in conversation isn’t correct. So what’s the difference?

Emoticons

According to The Guardian, an emoticon is a facial representation used to convey emotion in a text only medium. The last time I remember using an emoticon would have to have been in high school (okay, maybe my freshman year in college before I morphed into an iPhone-carrying, FaceTime-obsessed diva). No one is just smiling 🙂 anymore.

Emojis

Instead of showcasing only facial expressions, emojis are actual pictures, ranging from people and families to cars, trucks and specific flags of different countries. Emojis are the colorful, playful characters that make our text conversations a tad bit juicier. Seriously, why settle for a few combinations when you can scroll through what seems like thousands of choices to describe your mood, location and even the food that you’re nibbling that day?

As PR professionals, we have to make sure that we are always sensitive to dialects, trends and different generations’ perspectives on communication. Since emojis and emoticons are a language of their own, they may be able to break down language barriers and even assist in awkward conversations. As social media continues to grow, pictorial representations of feelings play a huge role in our communication. However, we should be mindful of the usage of emojis in business settings. Sending the kissy face to clients may not be the best choice in the professional world.

What do you think about using emojis and emoticons in our industry? How often do you use them? Comment to us on Facebook!

What does a PR Agency do? Vita Vite Grand Opening

What does a PR Agency do? Vita Vite Grand Opening

February 16, 2016May 17, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Case Studies, Clairemont Client Newscreative PR agency, downtown Raleigh, DTA, Marketing, media relations, PR Agency, Public Relations Agency, ribbon cutting, ribbon-cutting ceremony, Vita Vite, Warehouse District

Vita Vite comes from the Italian words for “life” and “vine” – the idea of life revolving around wine and food, and how they bring people together in a common space of appreciation for the beautiful things that can enrich life. In order to showcase Vita Vite’s atmosphere and build onsite traffic and general visibility for the business, Clairemont hosted a creative ribbon-cutting ceremony designed to engage key influencers and members of the downtown Raleigh community.

As part of an ongoing public relations strategy to introduce Vita Vite to Raleigh and gain exposure for the business owner, Lindsay Rice, a visual twist was added to the ceremony to engage media; we highlighted the wine bar/art gallery concept by creating a ribbon out of wine corks.

Connecting with the Community: Vita Vite is located in Raleigh’s Warehouse District, also known as the Art District. To make a strong connection with the downtown community, the president of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, David Diaz, made an official statement about the growth in the Warehouse District and Vita Vite’s role in helping its expansion. To further integrate Vita Vite with the community, guests were invited to co-create a piece of art and “leave their marks.” Participants put ink on their thumbs and placed thumbprints on a canvas to create a commemorative art piece that is now on display at Vita Vite.

Targeted Pitches: Clairemont targeted lifestyle bloggers to enjoy a date night at Vita Vite. Bloggers were invited to bring someone special with them to enjoy VIP perks, like a complimentary glass of wine, cheese plates and one-on-one interviews with the owner.

Vita Vite’s introduction to the downtown Raleigh scene has been a success as the new hotspot in the Warehouse District. The tweets from the ribbon-cutting ceremony reached a followership of 33,471 on Twitter alone. As part of a larger strategic campaign, Clairemont helped Vita Vite engage with a targeted lifestyle blogger audience by highlighting the date night aspect of the wine bar. This tactic exceeded expectations by securing two media placements and Instagram posts to a reach of more than 14,100 followers on Instagram, generating additional buzz about Vita Vite and its welcoming atmosphere.
