One of my favorite things about living in New Mexico was occasionally seeing hot air balloons on my morning commute. I always knew it was going to be a great day if it started with a hot air balloon sighting. While I see fewer balloons in North Carolina, my theory still holds true.

Clairemont is the PR partner for the second WRAL Freedom Balloon Fest. The three-day festival is organized solely by volunteers and it is estimated that 300 people will be needed each day. To kickoff the call for volunteers, organizers recently held a day-long event to generate excitement for the festival, and starting the day with a tethered hot air balloon certainly did the trick!

If you’re interested in volunteering, be sure to sign up on the website.

On the Record: Building Your Brand

On the Record: Building Your Brand

March 9, 2016January 31, 2023 Sarah HattmanBlog, On the Record, Raleigh PR Agencybrand building, branding, High Five Conference, Myrtle's Postcards, postcards, PR, Public Relations, Raleigh NC, story, Storytelling, Triangle AMA1 Comment on On the Record: Building Your Brand

When’s the last time you sent someone a postcard? In this age of texts and emails, I am a huge fan of the hand-written letter and cannot help but smile when I open my mailbox to find one waiting for me.

When I started at Clairemont two years ago, I noticed a series of framed postcards on the mantle by my desk. Occasionally, it was mentioned that they were Myrtle’s postcards, but I never heard the full story until recently, and it’s fascinating. However, it’s not my story to tell, so if you want to hear the whole story – and didn’t get to hear it at the recent High Five Conference – contact Clairemont CEO Dana Hughens.

What I will tell you is that it’s a story about 80 postcards that were written over a span of 50 years and sent from all over the world to a woman named Myrtle. Myrtle’s postcards are more than just a great story, they also can teach us about building our brand through storytelling. Let’s go “On the Record” with Dana to find out more.

Feeling Manipurated Online?

Feeling Manipurated Online?

February 25, 2016January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Raleigh PR Agency, The Clairemont Teambook review, customer reviews, Daniel Lemin, Manipurated, online ratings, Online Reviews, Yelp

About a year and a half ago, it seemed we had a lot of discussions with restaurants about Yelp reviews. Most of these conversations were born out of frustration, many times as the direct result of one review that struck a nerve, wouldn’t go away or was just downright false.

That’s why I was eager to read Daniel Lemin‘s book Manipurated when I heard about it from my friend and fellow PR pro, Abbie Fink. (You can read her review of this book on the HMA blog.)

It is an easy read and a great place to start for anyone who has felt angst about online ratings or wants to better understand how to leverage the power of consumer reviews. Daniel demystifies two essential things that underscore the counsel we’ve provided our clients.

The first is that while this world of online opinion sharing might seem to be the Wild West, it is not beyond the law. There are legal ramifications involved with things such as pretending to be someone else online, attempting to buy positive reviews and other shenanigans that some people employ in attempts to beat the system. Yes, I hear you asking, “Shenanigans? Like what?” Read the book!

The second fact is that there is a not a magic bullet to winning at online reviews. Like most any other type of communications, there is not a one-size-fits-all solution. However, Daniel does outline how to get started if you are serious about dedicating the time and resources to develop a strategic plan for your business.

I recommend this book to anyone just venturing into this space. Feel it’s too tricky to navigate alone or have a specific question? Shoot me a note at d@clairemontcommunications.com and let’s discuss.

Feasible Resolutions for Productivity

Feasible Resolutions for Productivity

February 11, 2016January 31, 2023 Clairemont InternBlog, Public Relations, Raleigh PR Agencyactive lifestyle, Energy for the workday, FitBit, Healthy Living, move more, resolutions

Today’s post is written by fabulous Clairemont intern, Rebecca Martin, as she shares her healthy living tips learned from the university scene.

I’ll straight-up admit: I ditched resolutions this year. It can be difficult to set rigorous goals for yourself with the start of the new year, even if you have every intention of completing them.

In a survey done by the Statistic Brain Research Institute, out of the 45 percent of people who make New Year’s resolutions, only eight percent are actually able to stick to their resolutions. It may seem valiant to want to stick to the same goals everyday, but let’s face it; between work, school, kids and a social life, consistency seems impossible.

Here are some of my favorite tips to help you set smaller, defined goals that will garner success.

Snooze Well

Try to be in bed between seven and eight hours every night. The average adult needs between seven and nine hours of sleep to function. This extra rest time will help boost your mood and give you increased energy the next day for work. My FitBit One has a special sleep tracker that links to my phone and tells me how many times I become restless during the night, helping me to set new rest goals. For example, if my FitBit tells me I’m usually restless for 30 minutes before falling asleep, I will try to go to sleep 30 minutes earlier.

Stay Hydrated

When should you drink water? Every time you think about it! Tote a water bottle with you to work, leave one in your car and stow one on your nightstand. Hydration is key to controlling metabolism and maintaining energy levels. Dehydration causes fatigue and tiredness throughout the day, which can kill your focus and motivation.

Take the Stairs

We’ve all been told to take the stairs instead of the elevator. It may seem like old news, but it really is helpful. My FitBit keeps track of the number of flights I climb every day, and the number always surprises me. Scaling the stairs of school buildings, my apartment building and at work makes a huge difference — sometimes I end up climbing up to 25 floors in a single day!

Vita Vite, downtown Raleigh’s premiere wine bar and art gallery and Clairemont client, celebrated its official grand opening this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. We wanted to put the creative Clairemont touch on the official ribbon, and because wine is an essential part of Vita Vite we decided to create it out of wine corks. Guests were also invited to leave their mark on the newest business in the Warehouse District by putting their thumbprint on canvas to create a one-of-a-kind piece of artwork that will be displayed in Vita Vite to commemorate the occasion.
