Is Facebook Here to Stay?

Is Facebook Here to Stay?

February 23, 2016January 31, 2023 Clairemont InternBlog, Public Relations, Social Media + Influencer EngagementFacebook, Instagram, PR, PR Agency, snapchat, Social Media, Twitter, WhatsApp

Today’s post is written by Clairemont intern, Emma Kirkpatrick.

We’ve all heard it – chatter that Facebook is slowly dying and is doomed to become the next MySpace. But before you go and break up with Facebook, consider this. Yes, more and more users, specifically young teenagers, are trading in their Facebook accounts for newer social media platforms, such as Instagram and WhatsApp. But let’s not forget who owns these apps—Facebook.

Social Media and the Changing Environment

And why did Facebook decide to buy these apps? With its steady user base and enormous funds, Facebook is changing and adapting to the new social media environment where it is not the only social network anymore. In more recent years, an average social media user navigates between multiple platforms, including Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat.

Facebook Is Still Distinctive

But what makes Facebook different from these newer platforms? Channels like Snapchat allow users to post pictures that will disappear and be forgotten after a few seconds or hours. On the other hand, Facebook aims to allow users to post photos designed to be remembered, such as weddings, graduations and family reunions. Each platform’s goals and functionalities differ, helping to further distinguish them.

The Cool Factor

Teenagers might say that Snapchat, Twitter and Instagram are the “in” platforms and Facebook just isn’t cool anymore. But according to Business Insider’s article in 2013 when Facebook seemed to be diminishing, Mark Zuckerberg said, “People assume that we’re trying to be cool. It’s never been my goal. I’m the least cool person there is! We’re almost 10 years old so we’re definitely not a niche thing any more so that kind of angle for coolness is done for us.”

Instead of trying to be the trendy site that relies on the cool factor to attract users, Facebook is trying to build a lasting product to compete in the same market with platforms such as Google.

Trampling the Competition

From Fortune.com
From Fortune.com

Recent data shows that Facebook continues to squash the competition in social media traffic referrals. This may be because businesses and companies still rely heavily on Facebook for marketing strategies and endorsement activities.

So even though there are new channels, tools and platforms popping up daily, Facebook isn’t dying anytime soon.

Oh Momma Monday: Snow Daze

February 22, 2016January 31, 2023 Tracy LathanBlog, Oh Momma Mondayfamily snow day, motherhood, Snow day activities for kids, snow day games, things to do on snow days

Well, it’s that time of year in my beloved home state of North Carolina: the dreaded month of February. Snow or ice is in the forecast – not even falling from the sky – and school is closed or delayed. You know the drill. In a former life, I loved this time of year. Snow days called for lounging in pajamas, watching movies and day drinking. Today it means trying to entertain two little people for twelve hours straight within the confines of our home. Ok, so there is still some day drinking.

During our most recent “snow event,” I pulled out all the stops. We watched movies, made hot chocolate, constructed a Frozen castle out of Magna-Tiles, played dress up, did puzzles and had a KidzBop dance party. Thank heavens for the Kindle Fire Santa brought my son for Christmas so I could get some work done. I even broke out the Play-Doh! And don’t even get me started on the laundry. Every time they went out, even if only for two minutes, I was left with a huge pile of wet clothes to wash. All the while my children asked for a snack every 30 minutes the entire day.

Don’t get me wrong; I do still love a snow day. I think we could just all use some fresh ideas to keep everyone from driving each other crazy, especially if we are also trying to work from home! So, we need your help. How do you entertain your kids on snow days? Any fun family traditions, recipes or activities?

It’s our new thing in 2016. Well Wednesdays! (And we encourage you to experiment with fun inflections. “Weeeeeeell? Wednesdays?” … “WELL Wednesdays!”)

Every Wednesday, our team trades its business suits for yoga pants in the office, allowing us to pop out for a quick walk, run or yoga session during the day as our schedules allow. We’re creating an environment that supports our commitment to personal health and wellness.

And just for fun, we’ll share a little insider fact with you. It took us 41 (forty-one!) snapshots to capture this photo. Apparently, coordinated group jumping ain’t as easy as it appears! Weeeeell…

We’re a great team. Check out our other shenanigans!

Facebook Ads: Targeting Diners

Facebook Ads: Targeting Diners

February 17, 2016January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Restaurant PR + Hospitality PRfacebook ads for food, facebook ads for restaurants, food ads, PR for restaurants, Raleigh PR, restaurant advertising in Raleigh, restaurant facebook ad, restaurant PR in raleigh, restaurants ads

Is organic Facebook content dead for restaurants, dwarfed by promoted posts and paid ads?

The Wall Street Journal reported that Facebook post impressions declined 35 percent in the first quarter of 2015, while a study by Social@Ogilvy found that organic reach has capped out at approximately six percent. In other words, if you don’t pay Facebook to boost your content, you can expect an average of six people to see your content for every 100 fans you have.

Yikes.

Why should restaurants even bother with a Facebook page then?

Because a page provides a platform to encourage both organic and promoted content. In fact, a robust social media strategy will include a well-placed schedule of both types of posts.

3 Ways to Target Your Restaurant’s Audience on Facebook

We understand it can be daunting to let go of your carefully groomed content calendar that once fostered such strong engagement. So when creating your first Facebook ad for your restaurant, go simple. First open ad creation to get started, and then experiment with these tips to create a target audience for your ad.

1. Geo-Targeting

This option allows you to narrow your audience based on zip code, city or even a specified mile radius. If you have access to your current email database or customer list, do a quick query to determine your typical customer location. Some restaurants only draw guests from a five-mile radius, while others can stretch to 50 or more, depending on the type of offering. Use this as a guideline to geo-target potential guests with your ad.Geo-Targeting Facebook Ads

2. Lookalike Audiences

You can create an audience segment known as “lookalike,” those that mirror the interests and behavior patterns of your current fans. Is your typical customer a 28-year-old accountant with a penchant for authentic Italian lasagna? Chances are that other fans with similar profiles are primed to like and engage with your restaurant.

3. Interest-Based Profiles

Utilize life stages or interests to shape your target audience. If your restaurant is more of a special occasion facility, consider targeting the newly engaged crowd that might be seeking a reception hall or bridal shower location. Health food establishments can connect with those committed to diets, yoga, CrossFit or weight loss programs. All of these ideas open options beyond the standard “people who like dinner” groupings.Interest Targeting on Facebook

The best strategy employs a thoughtful combination of all of these factors. Explore! Facebook is your oyster … er … hamburger … er…

What does a PR Agency do? Vita Vite Grand Opening

What does a PR Agency do? Vita Vite Grand Opening

February 16, 2016May 17, 2023 Jasmin SessomsBlog, Case Studies, Clairemont Client Newscreative PR agency, downtown Raleigh, DTA, Marketing, media relations, PR Agency, Public Relations Agency, ribbon cutting, ribbon-cutting ceremony, Vita Vite, Warehouse District

Vita Vite comes from the Italian words for “life” and “vine” – the idea of life revolving around wine and food, and how they bring people together in a common space of appreciation for the beautiful things that can enrich life. In order to showcase Vita Vite’s atmosphere and build onsite traffic and general visibility for the business, Clairemont hosted a creative ribbon-cutting ceremony designed to engage key influencers and members of the downtown Raleigh community.

As part of an ongoing public relations strategy to introduce Vita Vite to Raleigh and gain exposure for the business owner, Lindsay Rice, a visual twist was added to the ceremony to engage media; we highlighted the wine bar/art gallery concept by creating a ribbon out of wine corks.

Connecting with the Community: Vita Vite is located in Raleigh’s Warehouse District, also known as the Art District. To make a strong connection with the downtown community, the president of the Downtown Raleigh Alliance, David Diaz, made an official statement about the growth in the Warehouse District and Vita Vite’s role in helping its expansion. To further integrate Vita Vite with the community, guests were invited to co-create a piece of art and “leave their marks.” Participants put ink on their thumbs and placed thumbprints on a canvas to create a commemorative art piece that is now on display at Vita Vite.

Targeted Pitches: Clairemont targeted lifestyle bloggers to enjoy a date night at Vita Vite. Bloggers were invited to bring someone special with them to enjoy VIP perks, like a complimentary glass of wine, cheese plates and one-on-one interviews with the owner.

Vita Vite’s introduction to the downtown Raleigh scene has been a success as the new hotspot in the Warehouse District. The tweets from the ribbon-cutting ceremony reached a followership of 33,471 on Twitter alone. As part of a larger strategic campaign, Clairemont helped Vita Vite engage with a targeted lifestyle blogger audience by highlighting the date night aspect of the wine bar. This tactic exceeded expectations by securing two media placements and Instagram posts to a reach of more than 14,100 followers on Instagram, generating additional buzz about Vita Vite and its welcoming atmosphere.
