Time flies when you’re having fun! This year marks Clairemont’s sixth year in business, but instead of celebrating with a party or cake, we opted for a virtual dance party. As you probably know, the Clairemont team loves to dance, and this time we took the dancing to our clients.

Let’s face it; we wouldn’t be in business without our fabulous clients. As way to thank them for allowing us to push them out of their comfort zones from time to time, we stepped out of our comfort zones — with singing! For me, singing is something I do in the shower or car but never in public. That is until now.

With slowing growth and stock troubles, 2015 was a tough year for Twitter. If you’re expecting the app to cease to exist in 2016, think again. Changes are coming. There have been rumors swirling lately about lifting the 140 character limit restriction, but no confirmation from company representatives. However, Twitter did recently introduce conversational ads as a new way to increase interest and engagement. Let’s go “On the Record” and take a closer look.

It’s no secret that the Clairemont team loves to dance! To celebrate our fifth anniversary, we kicked off 2015 by dancing for five minutes on the hour for five hours on the Clairemont porch. As Clairemont is now in its sixth year in business, we decided to involve our clients in our dance party – after all, we wouldn’t be here without them. The above photo was taken at Vita Vite, a wine bar and art gallery located in the Warehouse District.

I recently read an article by Ann Wylie in “Tactics” entitled “Think Like a Reporter: Make Your Release Relevant to the Reader,” and it took me on a trip down memory lane. I have a vivid memory of sitting in a newsroom and watching the assignment desk editor walk over to the fax machine (yes, it’s been a while since I was in the news business), pick up a large stack of news releases and sift through them to read the headlines. The headlines were read in comical voices, and then the entire pile went directly into the recycling bin.

As a journalist turned PR pro, this memory now makes me cringe. No one wants his or her news release to end up in the trash, but the truth is that it happens all the time in newsrooms. For this installment of “On The Record,” I decided to share my thoughts on developing a more meaningful news release and relationships with the media.
