Radiant Orchid: Fashionable Food?

Radiant Orchid: Fashionable Food?

July 9, 2014January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Fashion, Restaurant PR + Hospitality PRColor of the year, fashion, Food Trends, Pantone, pantone color of the year, Restaurant PR, style trends

When Pantone announced its 2014 Color of the Year, mags, blogs and morning shows exploded with the Radiant Orchid color wheel. Trendy DIY segments ran the gamut from refurbishing the sitting room (Cosmic Berry-hued walls) to reviving your couture (pair with shades of buttercup and mint).

Designers revamped our rides with plum Dodge Challengers and a magenta Bentley. And not to be outdone, Sephora spotlighted a collection of fuchsia lip stains and lilac nail varnishes for a splash of Hollywood glam.

Don’t tell, but there is a secret segment of laymen stylists that pursue trends beyond wardrobe design. We strike an unlikely balance of fashionista-meets-foody. (Don’t judge: your mouth waters too when the “hot light” is on at Krispy Kreme). We’d love to blend our passions of couture and cuisine, fashion and flavor, style and savor. A true debutant dining experience.

Lucky for us, we’ve uncovered a host of delicious ways to incorporate Radiant Orchid into one of our favorite household hobbies: making the menu. Don’t think of it as purple food; consider it a fashionable foray into a stylish culinary adventure.

Fashion Week Inside Scoop

Fashion Week Inside Scoop

February 12, 2014January 31, 2023 Tracy LathanBlog, Fashion, Public Relations, Raleigh PR Agencyfashion, Public Relations1 Comment on Fashion Week Inside Scoop

It’s always nice to know people in high (fashion) places. My sister works for New York based designer Rebecca Taylor, so I got the chance to attend my first New York Fashion Week runway show this past weekend. A lifelong style devotee myself, I was beyond excited. And the experience did not disappoint…socialites, fashionistas, lots of black, plenty of attitude, incredible clothing and even a few celebrities. And only at fashion week would you see hundreds of women wearing open toe Louboutin stilettos teetering down streets covered in mountains of snow and ice. I loved every minute.

What I also really enjoyed was the production of the show itself. As a PR professional, I have orchestrated countless events and could relate to the sleep deprived, over-stressed girls running around. From the lighting and the music to the seating chart and the media interviews, it was evident that countless hours of planning went into executing a show of this magnitude. And although there were probably hiccups and missteps along the way, as an observer from the sidelines, it looked as though everything went off without a hitch.

And the collection itself was amazing. Rebecca Taylor is known for her feminine details, but this collection had more of an edge to it. She paired soft ice blue sweaters with more structured pieces and jackets. Lots of hardware and zipper details. And while it all looked great on the runway, it was also a very wearable collection. I already have a few things on my wish list!

Takeaways were, fashion is a true art, my sister’s job is fabulous and the same rules and challenges come into play for planning events – glamorous or not. Here is a link to all the looks from the show Rebecca Taylor Fall 2014 Runway Looks, along with a few pictures I snapped.

The Return of Blue: Trending Now

The Return of Blue: Trending Now

February 5, 2014January 31, 2023 Margot HorganBlog, Entry-Level PR Job, Fashioncolor trends, fashion, Fashion Trends, Indigo

We make it our business to keep up on all of the latest style trends, and today our intern Carly (more on this rising PR superstar coming soon!) is reporting on one of this season’s hottest – or should we say coolest – colors.

Ever since colored jeans became a hot trend, blue seems to have taken a back seat in the fashion industry. However, this season our favorite cool color tone is making a big comeback in the dramatically fashionable hue, indigo.

Fashion designer Tracy Reese says her customers are always drawn to the moody, yet beautiful, color because “it looks good on everyone.” You can pair indigo with any color palette, whether it is bold and striking or soft and dreamy. To stand out, add a bright accessory and matching heels to an indigo outfit, or add an indigo scarf atop cream-colored blouses to enhance an otherwise simple outfit.

The color trend continues in home décor this season, as well. Elle Décor flaunts tie dyed indigo patterns on wallpapers, wall coverings, throw pillows and rugs, and draws design inspiration from  the dreamy blue-accented Grecian villages along the Mediterranean Sea. Anthropologie boasts an entire line this spring called Everything Indigo in which the color is found in anything from shift dresses to accessories, including iPhone cases, dishes and vases. North Carolina-based tablewear and home decor company Vietri is also on-trend this season with its new collection, Maremisto. The assorted dishware features deep indigo hues accented with pops of color and nautical designs.

So, there’s no reason to feel blue this season as indigo pops up everywhere like budding springtime flowers. Whether it is gracing the runways of top clothing designers, accenting trendy pieces of furniture, or sprinkled in the designs of fine china, indigo is a dominating color this season. The Spring 2014 Pantone Fashion Color Report says so.

Oxblood: Add a Drop to Your Wardrobe this Fall

November 6, 2012January 31, 2023 Margot HorganBlog, Fashion, Trendsfashion, Fashion Trends, Oxblood Color Trend

Deemed the color of the season by many fashion blogs and trendsetters, Oxblood is popping up everywhere – from makeup and accessories to clothing and shoes. And everyone is talking about it, from national sources like Real Simple Magazine and The Wall Street Journal to our local newspaper, The News & Observer.

Add a splash (or a drop) of oxblood to your Fall wardrobe!

While the name might conjure up dark images, don’t shy away from this trendy new color. Oxblood is a more complex color than just burgundy, wine, maroon or merlot. It is a deep, rich, warm red with a hint of brown, purple and blue, and can be the ideal accent to any outfit this season.

Oxblood has become a popular color in the makeup market – lipsticks, eye shadows, blushes and nail polish. A little pop of oxblood through makeup can give your look a boost of sophistication. It can also be a fun alternative from the blacks and dark purples you see during cooler months.

Denim and leathers in oxblood are also big on the runway and in department stores this fall. Still skeptical? Here are a few ways you can incorporate this color into your personal style:

  • Pair it with a more neutral color like khaki, olive and tans
  • Contrast it with light neutral colors
  • Layer it with other shades of red

A little oxblood can help an outfit become the perfect fall look. And remember…a little goes a long way!

Green Thought Thursday: Vogue’s Top 10 Must-Haves

April 26, 2012January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, SustainabilityClairemont Communications, fashion, Green, Style, Vogue2 Comments on Green Thought Thursday: Vogue’s Top 10 Must-Haves

Earth Day might have been last week, but each Thursday at Clairemont is a Green Thought Thursday! Today, Clairemont intern Margot Horgan shares why going green is so en vogue…

In honor of Earth Day, Vogue published a list of its top ten must-have items for going green. With everything from home goods, to food, to transportation, this list of items is 100 percent stylish and 100 percent eco-friendly. We’ve shared the list with you below, so make sure to check it out!

1.     Suntanned leather shoes from Esquivel. Why Vogue loves it? The suntan collection is made with only sun-tanned leather and for the first time, George used the sun as a tool to bronze the leather eliminating the use of harmful dyes and treatments as well as lowering the number of energy-consuming machines traditionally used in the production of shoes.

2.     The Natural bamboo bicycle from Panda Bicycles, starting at $3,000. Why Vogue loves it? This company, based in Colorado, produces the first steel-lugged bamboo bikes hand built in the U.S. The bamboo is sustainably farmed and processed, and they offer custom paint and finishing touches to ensure each bicycle is different.

3.     Freitag Truck Tarp tote bags, F52 Miami Vice, $105. Why Vogue loves it? The bags are unique because they are made from used truck tarps—each one having its own look and its own state of use. Furthermore, each one-of-a-kind bag is still cut by hand in Zurich, Switzerland, and gets its individual look depending on the color, the writing, and design of the tarp.

4.     Greenopia Digital City Guides, $5; Available May 1. Why Vogue loves it? Whether you’re looking for a nontoxic dry cleaner or the best natural shampoo, download the online guide Greenopia, which lists eco-friendly retailers and services in major cities from Honolulu to New York—all without wasting a single piece of paper. And, with their new e-reader version, you can get access on the go, making it even easier to stay green while traveling or on vacation.

5.    La Isla hand-embroidered bikinis. Why Vogue loves it? La Isla has partnered with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society to donate a portion of its 2012 proceeds to his organization, which works to protect oceans and educate children about their importance.

6.    Irving Farm Coffee Company special edition Rainforest Foundation coffee bag. Why Vogue loves it? All of the Irving Farm Coffee Company’s beans are roasted at its farm in upstate New York, and from every coffee bag sold, $1 is donated to the efforts of the Rainforest Foundation. Plus, the bag itself biodegrades, leaving behind only water, CO2, and natural fertilizer. Continue reading “Green Thought Thursday: Vogue’s Top 10 Must-Haves”
