Year: 2016

Cheers to a Year!

Cheers to a Year!

There’s no better way to celebrate your first anniversary than with 300 of your closest friends…and 300 of your favorite donuts!

Clairemont client Vita Vite, a wine bar and art gallery in the downtown Warehouse District, has grown to be one of Raleigh’s favorite hotspots in just 12 months. On December 9, 2016, Lindsay Rice, owner of Vita Vite, gathered friends and fans to celebrate her first year in business. Guests snapped snazzy pics in the holiday-themed photo booth and toasted with Lindsay’s hand-selected wines while being serenaded by Old Habits.

But no standard birthday cake for this celebration! Lindsay and her team designed a custom wall bedecked with hundreds of Rise Donuts creations! From double chocolate to eggnog, Lindsay’s donut wall was a party hit, the perfect blend of fun, flavor and flourish.

Congratulations to Lindsay and her team for an incredible first year! Check out the creative fun we had with her grand opening in 2015!

What Does A PR Agency Do? Papa Spud’s

What Does A PR Agency Do? Papa Spud’s

December 14, 2016January 31, 2023 Sarah HattmanAwards, Blog, Case StudiesBlogger relations, community relations, community supported agriculture, CSA, media relations, Papa Spud's, PR Agency, Raleigh PR Agency

The Triangle Business Journal captured this shot at the behind-the-scenes media breakfast and featured it as the Photo of the Week.

At a time when people have become more interested in knowing where their food comes from, community supported agriculture (CSA) delivery services have become increasingly popular. Papa Spud’s is a farm to fork delivery service based in Cary, N.C. that has been serving Triangle families since 2008. Each week, the team works with more than 50 local farmers and artisans to fill the CSA boxes.

While interest in this type of service did seem to be on the rise in 2014, the vast majority of Triangle residents had never heard of Papa Spud’s, and were not aware of the service it provided. To combat this issue, Papa Spud’s engaged Clairemont Communications to help raise awareness of the service and ultimately increase signups.

Strategy

We determined that the best approach to differentiate Papa Spud’s from its competitors was to highlight the fact that the service was completely customizable and offered a much broader offering than other CSAs in the area. Additionally, we wanted to feature the local farmers and food artisans to share an inside look at how the food makes it from the farm to customers’ front doors.

Execution

Clairemont Communications crafted and implemented a comprehensive strategy to increase brand awareness for Papa Spud’s.

  • We planned and executed an event targeting local mommy and food bloggers that allowed them to see a typical weekly box and gave them ideas on how to use it. Guests also had the chance to meet the Papa Spud’s team and hear from the company’s founder, Rob Meyer, who shared why he started the business and how it works.
  • A select group of media were invited to a breakfast and behind-the-scenes tour to see firsthand how the boxes are pulled together before delivery.
  • We formed grassroots partnerships with restaurants, gyms, schools and organizations –  including the Junior League of Raleigh that led to an ongoing sponsorship where Papa Spud’s supplied fruit for the Backpack Buddies program.
  • Creative and individualized pitches were used to maximize engagement from reporters and bloggers. We also invited mom bloggers to try the service for a month and blog about their experiences.

Results

Clairemont exceeded expectations and met all established objectives, along with increasing general awareness and customer registrations. As a result of our efforts, we secured the following:

  • 10 community partnerships
  • Four traditional media placements
  • Three blogger trials
  • More than 30 social media posts on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter
  • 10 blog posts that featured in-depth information about Papa Spud’s

The work Clairemont Communications conducted in partnership with Papa Spud’s earned an Honorable Mention Award in the Total Campaign category from the Raleigh Public Relations Society and an Honorable Mention Award from the North Carolina Public Relations Society of America. We are proud that this campaign represents two of the 137 awards we’ve received since starting Clairemont in 2010. Instagram: 3 Takes on Video Fun

Instagram: 3 Takes on Video Fun

December 12, 2016January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, In Our Community, Social Media + Influencer Engagementart, Instagram, instagram videos, local art, Social Media

Have you ever seen someone do something really cool on Instagram that made you want to do it, too? But then, maybe you thought you couldn’t be a copy cat.

Attending a B.Y.O.C. (bring your own camera) event at CAM Raleigh last month proved that having a similar photo backdrop, or even concept for a video, can result in completely different posts. Consider how these three videos, shot with the same backdrop and props, are different.

I chose to use Boomerang to give the impression that I was jumping all night while brightly colored pom-poms pelted me.

My son used a slow-mo effect while he stood in a stream of the pom-poms, trying not to smile because, well, because he thought that would look cool. (And it did.)

And checkout Katie Stew‘s video that combines the jumping motion of mine with slow-mo. I love how Katie’s hair looks in this, and it is another example of how different people can do something similar without it necessarily looking the same.

I’m not suggesting you rip off your friend’s most clever social media idea since the invention of, um, well, social media. However, if you see someone do something you think is cool, there’s nothing wrong with experimenting to see how you can make it your own. After all, isn’t that the fun of social media?

What’s your favorite social channel? Mine is Instagram, and you can see my photos and videos by following me. Leave me a like or comment if you think pom-pom pelting looks fun to you, too!

Garden & Gun Jubilee

Garden & Gun Jubilee

December 9, 2016January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Photo of the Week, Travelgarden and gun, jubilee, photo booth, photo opp, photo prop, videri, videri chocolate

Garden & Gun’s 4th annual Jubilee was last weekend in Charleston. From the food to the music to the venues, nary a detail was missed. The event planners nailed it when it came to creating a backdrop for photo opportunities that festival participants would share on social media.

Personally, I found the huge Jubilee marquee irresistible, as you’ll see in this shot of me with Clairemont client, Starr Sink from Videri Chocolate Factory. I also love a good photo booth and recently discovered a photo bus! Have you attended an event with staged photo stations that you couldn’t resist? We would love to see your photos! Please share them with us on the Clairemont Facebook page.

Putting the Relations back in PR

Putting the Relations back in PR

December 7, 2016January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Counselors Academy, Public RelationsCounselors Academy, PR Agency, PRSA, Public Relations

With today’s technological advancements, have we lost the relationship component of public relations? Is the concept of meeting a reporter for a cup of coffee dead? Desk side briefings? Even real phone calls?  Read what my friend and fellow Counselors Academy executive committee member, Pam Golden of GLA Communications has to say in her PRSA Tactics column, Putting Relations Back in Public Relations.

As a member of PRSA‘s Counselors Academy executive committee, I’ve been collaborating with Tactics editor John Elsasser for several months as a liaison of sorts to secure contributors for the publication’s monthly column called “Changing Times.” The column was started by Michael Herman, APR, Fellow PRSA, friend and mentor to many. There was no one better than Mike to write about changes in the public relations industry, but his only published column appeared in January 2015, the same month he unexpectedly left this world. Since then, members of PRSA’s Counselors Academy have been contributing their thoughts on the evolution of our profession.
