Q&A with Design for Mankind’s Erin Loechner

October 26, 2011January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Furniture PRBlogger Spotlight, Clairemont Communications, Design for Mankind, Drexel Heritage, Erin Loechner

Today we’re launching Whaddaya Think Wednesday which is a new Q&A feature where we’ll ask people “whaddaya think?” on a variety of topics.

This post originally appeared on Tips and Trends, the blog for Drexel Heritage (Clairemont client). We wanted to share it here because we admire Erin’s talent, and truth be told, we at Clairemont sorta kinda want to be her. One of my favorite posts is her Life List. Check it out. It’s pretty awesome. I love No. 28 and No. 93.

Blogger Spotlight: Erin Loechner

Posted on 21. Sep, 2011 in Blogger Spotlight

If you don’t already know Erin Loechner, the charming writer/stylist/designer behind DesignForMankind.com, recently named one of the top 50 design blogs in the world by The Times of London, then it’s time you got to know her.

This talented fashionista, DIYer and admirer of all things fabulous, hosts a renovation column on HGTV.com where she catalogs her experiences as an impromptu interior designer. Her work has been featured in Glamour, Lucky, Dwell, Apartment Therapy and The Huffington Post, to name a few.

Erin is one of our favorite design bloggers so we were excited to catch up with her this week as part of our Blogger Spotlight series.

Here’s what she had to say:

How did you become interested in interior design?

I grew up in a very tiny Indiana town, so to be honest, I didn’t know interior design existed until college. My roommate was an art major and enrolled in a design class for fun. I used to beg to borrow her books and peruse all of the beautiful images!

When you aren’t blogging, what do you do?

My husband and I are renovating a ranch-style home, so I’m either decorating/renovating or writing about decorating/renovating! I joke that if I don’t have a hammer in my hand, I’ve got a laptop.

What’s your favorite post that you’ve written on your blog and why?

I love my Color of the Week series — it’s hard to choose a fave!

Thanks for inspiring us, Erin! Did you have a chance to check out her blog yet? What’s your favorite item on her Life List or a post that interests you? Be sure sure to share in the comments section below!

What an Honor, Sir!

October 12, 2011January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Clairemont Client News, Public RelationsBriar Chapel, Clairemont Communications, Drexel Heritage, Marbles Kids Museum, Meredith College, Raleigh Public Relations Society, Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Excellence in Communications, Triangle Family Services

A few weeks ago, the Clairemont team was honored at the Sir Walter Raleigh Awards for Excellence in Communication ceremony hosted by the Raleigh Public Relations Society. It was my first Raleigh Public Relations Society event, so I was particularly excited to learn more about the organization and to network with fellow communications professionals, including our office neighbors over at the Marbles Kids Museum.

All in all, it was a lovely evening spent among some of the area’s most talented PR professionals. Hats off to everyone who pitched in to make the evening a smashing success.

The Clairemont team brought home six awards (this brings our total award count to 20 for the year)! Among the awards were the following: Gold – Best in Division in the “More Bang for the Buck” Special Event/Campaign category for the Eighth Annual Triangle Family Services Gingerbread Benefit; Gold in the Total Communications/Community Relations Campaign for Organizational Identity/Promotion category for Briar Chapel; Silver  in the Publications/Brochure/Handbook/Guidebook category for our Drexel Heritage furniture collections brochures; and Silver in the Publications category for our Clairemont Communications Quickie Card.

Congratulations to the marketing and communications team over at Meredith College who we couldn’t help but notice was a big winner that night. And congratulations to all of our fellow award winners and friends. We’ll see you next year!

Dangerous Blogging

June 4, 2010January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Furniture PRDrexel Heritage, Furniture Marketing, Furniture PR, Home decorating, Interior Design, Interior design blog2 Comments on Dangerous Blogging

Certain client assignments are simply dangerous. And by dangerous I don’t mean the life threatening kind of danger. Take for example, when I was interviewing chefs to be featured on the Briar Chapel blog leading up to an Earth Day event. Well, I had to eat the food. At each restaurant. Each time I went there to set up the interview, do the interview, go back for an extra photo. Dangerous.

This week:credit card danger of epic proportions. Do you know what happens when you start messing around with decorating ideas, reading interior design blogs and flipping through the glossy pages of all the best home decorating magazines? That’s right, it starts with an inexpensive little throw pillow. The next thing you know you are knocking down walls, expanding the master and ripping up flooring. Cha-ching.

That’s the downside (if there really is one!) to doing furniture marketing and writing interior design blogs. On Tuesday, I wrote about Mother Nature as my favorite decorator in a post for Drexel Heritage about botanicals as an interior design trend. One of my favorite things in the Drexel Heritage showroom at Spring Market this year (now THAT is dangerous) is the sofa pictured in that post with the bird upholstery.

Today’s post for Drexel Heritage, still in the nature theme, focuses on flowers and floral designs. Personally, I do not feel that all florals are created equal and tend to like those that are more whimsical or vintage or just a different take. And so, I’ve fallen in love. I never knew I could love a wallpaper so much.

I love the one I mentioned in the post, and then once I published it, I kept looking on the Osborne & Little site. Somebody, stop me. I think I have to have this foxglove print. I just took a photo when I was in Asheville because I love these flowers so much and now look… I can have them 365 days of the year! And you know that means painting the trim which means replacing the carpet which means completely remodeling the upstairs!

Dangerous blogging. And I love it! What part of your job is dangerous but something you love doing?
