Fan Mail Friday — A Little Client Love

February 11, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Clairemont Client News, Hiring a PR Firm, The Clairemont Team

At Clairemont, we talk a lot about love. One of our immutable laws is written around the fact that we love our clients and the work we do for them. In the meantime, we hope they fall in love with working with us, too. Today, we are feeling the love of several appreciative clients, and want to share a recent letter from one of them. (Thank you, Teri!)

January 23, 2011

Over the course of my 20+ year career, both as an agency owner working with high profile clients, and as a client myself, I have worked with some of the best PR pros in the United States and Canada. Dana Hughens is in that class, and she now has a place on my list of trusted advisors.

Boyce Thompson, editorial director of BUILDER magazine, with Newland\’s chairman and CEO, Bob McLeod.

Dana and the team at Clairemont Communications provided strategic planning for a major national announcement at the International Builders Show earlier this month, and coordinated the implementation of a multi-region media relations campaign to increase recognition of the announcement.

I selected Dana to lead this initiative as a result of the reputation she has with our teams in the Carolinas and DC markets for her strategic focus, professionalism and unending commitment for delivering results, no matter what the obstacles might be.

From our first contact just before the holiday break I knew my decision was the right one. Dana jumped in and met head on a series of challenges – limited time, perceived “soft” news focus and the need to motivate teams from all over the country to support a national strategy while customizing it for local market coverage. She handled the teams with ease, gaining the trust of other agency owners in the process and managing all the details throughout.

When interview opportunities arose, pre-show or at the event itself, Clairemont prepared backgrounders and briefing documents that were focused, detailed and clear. The result was our chairman and CEO was prepared and confident to make the most of these opportunities. He relaxed, knowing that Clairemont had the details covered.

The results are still coming in. From major market coverage, trade pub and online pick-up, social media mentions, to measurable increases in website traffic, our work with Dana and team paid off. Awareness of Newland’s achievement is higher than we could have imagined, and now sits as a business asset we can leverage again and again.

It’s not easy to earn a place on my list of trusted advisors and consultants. Dana has, and I would work with Clairemont again any day of the week. If you get the opportunity, jump at it!

Sincerely,

Teri Slavik-Tsuyuki

Senior Vice President & Chief Marketing Officer, Newland

Green Thought Thursday: Don’t Waste That Vase!

February 10, 2011January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Sustainability1 Comment on Green Thought Thursday: Don’t Waste That Vase!
Fresh flowers? Save the vase!

In December, Dana celebrated a very important birthday, and if you know Dana even a little bit, then you know it means she celebrated in style – with flowers! Now fast forward more than a month later….The flowers may be gone, but we’re still left with a couple of shiny, translucent reminders.

Empty vases.

We all have them. Sometimes shelves full of them. But what to do with them? For today’s Green Thought Thursday, I thought I would share a few green ideas on how to repurpose or kindly get rid of some of your leftover vases.

For my first few tips, I decided to give Kelly Odom of Kelly Odom Flowers a call. Dana did, after all, order her arrangements from him (and loved them). Here’s what Kelly had to say:

–Recycle your vases with your florist! Kelly Odom will trade or issue credit for your returned vases.
–Donate! Kelly strongly recommended The Flower Shuttle for all of us Raleigh residents. This organization consists of more than 100 dedicated volunteers who pick up flowers after special events, weddings and funerals (after which they normally would be thrown away) and bring them to those that are living with sickness, terminal illness, poverty and disability.

If you’re a crafty individual like me, check out another list of ways to repurpose a vase from the eBay Green Team. Some of my favorites are as follows:

–Create a new “arrangement.” I love the idea of filling empty vases of different sizes and shapes with marbles, river stones and seashells. It would look so pretty in a window sill or on your dining room table!

–Make a mosaic. All you need is a hammer and a little plaster to create some cute mosaics for your garden.

–Pay it forward. Do you have a green thumb? Brighten your neighbor’s day with a vase of fresh flowers.

Dana and I hope you will keep some of these tips in mind next time you order flowers from your florist. And should you feel so compelled to send us flowers, well, we wouldn’t mind that either…

Benjamin Moore’s Color Pulse 2012

February 9, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Furniture PRInterior Design1 Comment on Benjamin Moore’s Color Pulse 2012

Do you know what preservation, protection and enlightenment have to do with fashion and interior design trends? I didn’t either until we listened in on Benjamin Moore’s Color Pulse 2012 webinar.

In future posts, we’ll reveal what we liked most about Color Pulse 2012 and compare it to what we are seeing in our work with home furnishings, interior design and residential real estate clients. Since there are four more opportunities to get the information in its entirety straight from the experts at Benjamin Moore, our lips are sealed for now. Other than to say that if you are a designer, have a home interiors related job or just love decorating, you should register now! The dates are on the Color Pulse site and below.

* February 16, 2011
* March 16, 2011
* April 13, 2011

Myrtle Monday — Power of Positive Thinking

February 7, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Free Advice, InspirationalClairemont Communications, Communications, positive thinking, postcards, PR1 Comment on Myrtle Monday — Power of Positive Thinking

I’m a believer in staying positive. It makes my days more enjoyable, and I like to think that a sunshiny attitude helps my team members and clients through their (sometimes stressful) days. Now you might be envisioning cartwheels and over-the-top enthusiasm.

While there are times that certainly call for that, I’m talking more about the every day ways to maintaining a positive outlook. Maybe it is simply a matter of tweaking how you respond to “how are you?” or how you greet participants on a conference call.

Read what Ruth wrote to Myrtle on this postcard. “Even in the rain, Venice is such a romantic city.” Imagine for a moment if she would have started with “It has rained the entire time we’ve been here,” or “If it would just stop raining…”

Creates a completely different tone, doesn’t it? Think you might need some help in positive-proofing your communications? Here are some books that might help: The Energy Bus, The No Complaining Rule and Everyday Positive Thinking.

Green Thought Thursday: Joe on the Go

February 3, 2011January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Sustainability
Our new intern Hope drinks her coffee in style — in a Lilly Pulitzer travel mug!

I’m new to the coffee world, but one thing’s for certain — I’m already hooked. I’m hooked on the caffeine, and I’m hooked on carrying around my green (literally, it’s green!) eCycled® travel mug.

To quote blogger Treehugger who quoted Organic Style, “Take all the people who read this magazine, then persuade them to sip their morning coffee from a travel mug for one week. Result: Enough trees to fill two football fields will be spared the ax. Can’t commit to a week? Switching to reusable cups for just one day will save as much energy as using 1,000 gallons of gasoline.”

Worried your local coffee house won’t fill a reusable mug? Think again. I was inspired by the folks at Treehugger who took the time to call coffee shops around town and make sure they would fill their mugs, so I did the same thing. And what did I find? Not only will they fill them, they’ll even give you a discount!

When I called Starbucks over on Fayetteville Street, they told me customers get 10 cents off if they bring in their own reusable mugs. Bruegger’s will also charge a cheaper price. Even my favorite (and local) spot, The Morning Times, will give you a 5 percent discount! Yum!

Well, I think that does it for this Green Thought Thursday, friends! I don’t know about you, but all of this talk about coffee sure does make me want some… See you at the Times!
