Marketing in a Post-Truth Era

Marketing in a Post-Truth Era

April 19, 2017January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Marketing, Public RelationsMarketing, post-trust era, post-truth era, Raleigh PR, Social Media

It’s no secret that America’s climate is undergoing a political, economic and social redirect. In fact, researchers claim that we’re entering into a new cultural era, one of the first shifts of this kind since the mid-1960s.

For example, recent findings by the Kantar Futures Group reveal a resurgence of the populist mindset. For the first time in decades, Americans place a premium on a sense of community and social ties rather than a sense of individualism. While self-expression still exists, it is couched within a context of smaller worlds, shared allegiances and common interests. People are willing to give up a small portion of our “lone ranger” mentality to stay connected to the group.

In addition, recent developments have launched us into a “post-trust era” (or the “post-truth era“) where we no longer trust experts or leaders. It’s not that we don’t see them as credible; we just believe they’re pursuing their own agendas. Interestingly enough, this mindset spans political parties and socioeconomic strata.

As with any cultural ebb, America’s shift affects branding, marketing and public relations. A cursory overview shows how these concepts have already manifested on social media.

– Mastodon: A Twitter clone that appeals to the “old Twitter crowd,” as it were. It sidesteps features that users perceive interrupt their experience — such as a stream of ads or ranked content. Users felt incensed that some “untrustworthy” governing authority regulated their timelines. Mastodon offers organic, real-time experience unfettered by the influence of “the man” along with several privacy options.

– HaterDater: While many apps connect users based on common interests (Match.com, MapleMatch, you name it), app developers have gone so far as to launch forums that connect people based on their dislikes. From those who loath certain politicians to people who hate slow walkers, users can find a like-minded friend on HaterDater. Our desire for connection has prompted us to connect with small communities in some very unexpected ways.

How should marketers respond? Demonstrate that you have your audience’s best interests at heart. Support and enable small communities. Back off of rampant fact sharing, and provide ways for people to strengthen their relationships with others. Heck, sponsor a local tee-ball team! (Okay, not necessarily, but you get the point.) Invest in personal, local and connected as the new currency to strengthening a brand.

What other strategies should you explore to strengthen your brand? Check out our post on Communicating Your Brand.

How Do You Eat Your Easter Bunny?

How Do You Eat Your Easter Bunny?

April 14, 2017January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Photo of the Week, The Clairemont Teamchocolate, easter, Easter bunnies, food research, videri

With Easter just a few days away, we’re whipping out sweet treat trivia in the Clairemont office. According to a study by the National Confectioners Association (NCA), 89 percent of survey respondents eat their chocolate bunnies ears first. Five percent eat the tail first, and 6 percent go for the feet.

We’re all about some solid research — especially when it comes to chocolate. (We even have a chocolate factory as a client!) So we gave these stats a test run with the Clairemont team.

Research shows that we fit the bill! Four out of the five Clairemont team members polled went for ears first (except for Cherith, who wanted to buck the trend).

The NCA study also states that 81 percent of parents steal candy from their kids’ baskets. Perhaps we have our next research project cut out for us…

Happy Easter, friends!

Bourbon and Bonbons

Bourbon and Bonbons

April 7, 2017January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Real Estate PR, Restaurant PR + Hospitality PRchocolate, food pr, new homes in Raleigh, PR events, real estate PR, videri chocolate, wendell falls

At Clairemont, we don’t just spruce up a stalwart event. We love designing completely fresh approaches to target audiences, boost visibility and ultimately secure sales.

Last week, we had the pleasure of doing just that!

Clairemont and client Wendell Falls, the Triangle’s largest new-home community, hosted a VIP tasting soiree that leveraged hot culinary trends and popular local businesses to attract potential homebuyers. Hosted at the Wendell Falls Farmhouse, “Bourbon and Bonbons” rolled out the red carpet with a classy yet casual evening. We invited guests to preview some of the area’s finest bourbons paired with gourmet truffles from Videri Chocolate Factory, one of Raleigh’s beloved downtown artisans. Guests could then enjoy a spread of smoky hors d’oeuvres, live music and a glass of wine or beer.

Friends and fans from across the Triangle joined the festivities — many who were visiting the community for the first time! Cheers to some of Raleigh’s finest flavors and a wonderful event at Wendell Falls!

Clairemont Clients Nab Business Awards

March 20, 2017January 31, 2023 Cherith AndesBlog, Clairemont Client News, In Our Communityaward entries, business awards, industry awards, Raleigh PR, Triangle Business Journal, women in business

Hang the streamers, pop the bubbly and cut the cake! Little else gets us as excited as when we celebrate our clients’ achievements. We’re thrilled to congratulate Shannon McSwiney, marketing director of Newland Communities, and Lindsay Rice, owner of Vita Vite in downtown Raleigh, on their recent 2017 Women in Business awards.

This accolade recognizes accomplished and outstanding leaders in the Triangle renowned for industry innovation, community involvement, thought leadership and dynamic change. The panel of judges, comprised of some of the Triangle’s top business personnel, selected Lindsay and Shannon from approximately 100 other nominees.

Wanna know a little bit more about our superstars?

Shannon McSwiney

Marketing Director, Newland Communities

As the marketing director for Newland Communities — the nation’s largest privately held developer, Shannon leads real estate growth and development across three master-planned communities in North Carolina. She researches, develops and implements marketing strategies for RiverLights in Wilmington, Wendell Falls in Wendell and Briar Chapel in Chapel Hill — overseeing everything from brand development to team development. Oh, and she’s also a mom of two fantastic kiddos, a former tap dancer and carries the title of Pepper Festival Pepper Queen from 2011.

Lindsay Rice

Owner, Vita Vite

Lindsay Rice, entrepreneur and founder of Vita Vite, is pursuing a lifelong vision to discover, curate and share hidden treasures and cultures from across the globe. In December of 2015, she opened Vita Vite, a wine bar and art gallery in the downtown Raleigh Warehouse District that features southern art, southern flavors and global sips. A mentor for the Boys & Girls Club of Wake County and a member of the Junior League of Raleigh, Lindsay also has a few hidden talents. For example, she’s an accomplished photographer who launched her own notecard line! Next time you stop by Vita Vite, be sure to ask her about her two pups, some of the cutest pooches in the Triangle.

It’s one of the wonderful things we get to do. We love partnering with our clients not only to position them as candidates but also to celebrate their well-deserved success with them.

Want to learn more about what we do as a PR agency? How about a barn raising, the chicken dance or an Instagram game of tag? We’ll stop at nothing to get results for our clients.
