Engaging Audiences

April 11, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Furniture PR

I love social media, and at Clairemont, we love to effectively blend traditional communications with social media as part of a cohesive communications strategy. In recent years, “viral” and “engagement” have become social media buzzwords. Maybe that’s why I love when they exist in a live environment.

Check out these photos of what our smart clients at Drexel Heritage did last week during High Point Market. Something as simple as inviting guests to write on the showroom walls turned visitors into co-designers and created a who’s who of market visitors. See if you can spot the signature of a U.S. senator and what editors of top shelter magazines wrote.

A Friday Favorite: York Wallcoverings

February 25, 2011January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Clairemont Client News, Furniture PR

This week we posted the following blog for our client, Drexel Heritage, and we just had to share it with you here, too! In a recent photo shoot with Diana Parrish, York Wallcoverings featured Drexel Heritage furniture against backdrops of eye-popping patterns, intricately designed details and beautiful colors. The photos are so captivating, we couldn’t help but feature them as our Friday Favorite. Enjoy!

Word of the Week: Architexture

What’s our favorite word of the week? “Architexture,” as coined by blogger Pretty Organized Palacewho used textured wallpaper to not only spruce up a mantle, but also fashion placemats, decorate file organizers and make over dingy lampshades.

And that’s not the only way bloggers are using this trending feature in home décor. We also love how Suzy’s Artsy-Craftsy Sitcome used textured wallpaper to create faux boiserie in this entryway.

We, too, are caught in the craze! In a recent photo shoot by York Wallcoverings, designers showcased Drexel Heritage furniture in rooms that feature some of their limited-edition textured wallpaper. The reflection from our mirrored Miriam Console illuminates the fluted glass beading of this wallcovering.

Designers also complemented this cream wallcovering with the Cloe Lamp Table from our Et Cetera collection.

We want to hear about ways that you are using textured wallpaper in your home. Is it in your bathroom? In your living room? On your lampshades or stairwell? We’re always open to new ideas!

Benjamin Moore’s Color Pulse 2012

February 9, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Furniture PRInterior Design1 Comment on Benjamin Moore’s Color Pulse 2012

Do you know what preservation, protection and enlightenment have to do with fashion and interior design trends? I didn’t either until we listened in on Benjamin Moore’s Color Pulse 2012 webinar.

In future posts, we’ll reveal what we liked most about Color Pulse 2012 and compare it to what we are seeing in our work with home furnishings, interior design and residential real estate clients. Since there are four more opportunities to get the information in its entirety straight from the experts at Benjamin Moore, our lips are sealed for now. Other than to say that if you are a designer, have a home interiors related job or just love decorating, you should register now! The dates are on the Color Pulse site and below.

* February 16, 2011
* March 16, 2011
* April 13, 2011
* May 11, 2011

Webinars will take place on Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m. EST/EDT.

Setting Your Thanksgiving Table

November 23, 2010January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Furniture PRTable Settings, Tabletop, Thanksgiving
Diana Parrish Photography for Drexel Heritage

Thanks to Facebook, I know that my friend, Gini Dietrich, has had her Thanksgiving menu planned for a few weeks now. And last weekend, I saw photos of the Thanksgiving centerpiece she so deftly created by using seasonal squash and leaves she gathered while walking her dog, Jack Baur. People like Gini know where the salad fork goes and which direction the knife blade should face. People like me do well to have enough clean forks for my guests and to remember to make the salad.

One of the advantages of working with home decor and interior design clients is that I get to learn all the rules and traditions I was never taught or have forgotten along the way. Clairemont recently wrote a blog post on one such topic for our client, Drexel Heritage, on how to arrange a proper table setting. This has become my go-to reference as the entertaining season has begun.

Additionally, this week on the Drexel blog, we’re providing decor inspiration with three different styles of beautiful holiday tabletops designed and shot by Diana Parrish. All are properly set, of course, each with its own creative flair! See, following the rules doesn’t ALWAYS have to be boring.

A Rose By Any Other Name…Might not be as Marketable

October 28, 2010January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Furniture PR, Public Relations, Starting a businessfurniture, Furniture Marketing, Furniture PR, naming, naming process, PR

Last month I had the honor of guest blogging on Spin Sucks about the art of naming. Since then, Clairemont has named three furniture collections that debuted last week at furniture market, so we thought it would be appropriate to share the post in its entirety on our blog, too. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed naming the new collections!

A sampling of the furniture we named that was introduced during fall market.

In a few weeks, I’ll experience my annual ritual of kicking off Fall Furniture market by walking into the showroom and checking out my client’s toenails as I greet her. Yes, her toenails.

My client and I share a love. A love of OPI Nail Lacquer. Take a fashionable color, add a fun, catchy name such as Kiss on the Chic, Gliterzland from the Swiss collection or the best-selling I’m Not Really a Waitress Red, and it goes from a hue we might select once at the nail salon to a bottle we’ll buy to use again and again.

If you’ve ever started a company, you had to name it. If you lead a company or are in marketing, public relations or advertising, you’ve likely been asked to help name a product or campaign. It might not be nail polish, but chances are you want your target audience to respond the way OPI fans do. How do you do that?

Too bad it isn’t as simple as comedian Mitch Hedberg portrayed it to be. “I want to get a job as someone who names kitchen appliances. Toaster, refrigerator, blender….all you do is say what it does and add ‘er’. Hey, what does that do? It keeps shit fresh. Well that’s a fresher….I’m going on break.”

Start with some inspiration. From Altoids to Zima by Evan Morris tells the story behind 125 well-known brands. Morris writes that once upon a time, naming a product was as simple as taking the manufacturer’s name and adding a product description, such as Smith’s Pure and Effective Cough Syrup. Nowadays, as Morris notes, companies often create new words for brands. Google started as “googol,” a word that the nine-year-old nephew of a mathematician made up to mean a “very, very large number, ten raised to the hundredth power.”
