Hey Chicago, Have a Seat (On Thomasville)

August 17, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Clairemont Client NewsChicago, furniture, Interior Design, Thomasville

Chicago is truly one of my favorite cities. As an Illinois native, maybe it is just in my blood. Maybe (and I’m dating myself here) the experience of being in Grant Park (in a tree no less — I’m short, remember) for the homecoming after the first Bulls championship forever bonded me. Maybe it’s just because I love Al’s Super Soaker.

Regardless, I wish I could be there Thursday evening for an interior design event that Thomasville (our client) is hosting at its new Lincoln Park store on Clybourn Avenue at 6 p.m. It will feature Thomasville’s fashion forecaster, Jana Burvikovs, who I met and instantly fell in love with at furniture market earlier this year.

You can tell Jana is a style maven with just a glance. She is also a sincerely kind person who is very passionate about interior design. If you can go Thursday, do it! You won’t be sorry. Here’s the invite.

The chance to win a free Thomasville chair is so secondary to the experience of meeting Jana and getting her design advice, that I almost forgot to mention it. Yes, the store will give-away a Thomasville chair. If you can go, please take some photos and/or video for me since I can’t be there!

Wake Up!

July 27, 2011January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Clairemont Client News, In Our Community1 Comment on Wake Up!

Since  I started with Clairemont nearly a year ago, I have proudly joined Dana in working with Triangle Family Services, a local nonprofit focused on building a stronger community by helping needy families in the area. In case you’re not familiar with the organization, here’s a quick rundown of its comprehensive services: individual and family counseling, consumer credit counseling, an emergency housing program and abuser treatment program.

Want to learn more? How about attending the organization’s very first Wake Up with TFS annual charity breakfast? The event will be hosted by the TFS Young Professionals — of which, I am an active member — on Thursday, Sept 1. from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the RBC Center.

As co-chair for the event, I can promise it will be a memorable and moving morning. Clients will share their stories, present and past members of the Board of Directors and Advisory Board, as well as  outgoing Board Chair Clymer Cease will be honored and the food will be delicious!

Money raised from the event will benefit needy families in the area. Tickets are $35, with table sponsorships available for $250 for a table of 10, as well as $500 for additional name recognition. Those interested may purchase tickets online at www.tfsnc.org/.

Will I see you there?

Community Relations Spotlight: Chatham County Chef Challenge

April 12, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Clairemont Client News, In Our Community

One of the things I love the most about Clairemont is that we get to work with such smart, creative and community-focused people! Our clients at Briar Chapel are absolute pros at community support and involvement. The key? A philanthropic mindset from the top — Bob McCleod, CEO of parent company Newland Communities, has a long history of humanitarian efforts — coupled with people throughout the company who have a personal passion for making a difference.

The Chatham County Chef Challenge is the perfect example. Passionate about health and wellness, education and the environment, the Briar Chapel team partnered with the Abundance Foundation to conceptualize the Chatham County Chef Challenge. Designed to increase fresh vegetables and fruits in the student lunches, educate the students and parents on the importance of a healthy lunch and increase participation in the school lunch program, the initiative was an easy sell to local celebrity chefs who are familiar with types of events and organizations Briar Chapel commonly supports.

An important part of the program was a training session where our celebrity chefs worked with the school cafeteria staffs to show them how to make their special dishes using ingredients available to the school lunchrooms. Below is a brief snippet of a Briar Chapel blog post on the training day, and to meet the chefs and sample their dishes that will become regular Chatham County school cafeteria menus, come out to Briar Chapel’s Earth Day event Saturday.

Summarized from the Briar Chapel blog…

After spending weeks creating the dishes, our chefs gathered last week to teach the 17 Chatham County School Cafeteria lunch managers the recipes. The managers went back to their kitchens and cook these dishes this week for all of the county school children.

The managers are of course the experts in feeding hundreds of children in a short period of time. They know what kids will and will not eat. Participating chefs included Chef Colin Bedford of Fearrington House, Chef Kelly Taylor and Chef Gregg Hamm of the Natural Chef Culinary Program at Central Carolina Community College (the first of it’s kind in the country) and Chef Jimmy Reale of Crossroads Restaurant located in the historical and beautiful Carolina Inn.

High Point Furniture Market

April 4, 2011January 31, 2023 Dana PhelpsBlog, Clairemont Client News, The Clairemont Team

It is our favorite thing about spring — High Point Market. We love being onsite with our clients and helping them introduce new collections to media. So far we’ve met with editors of top magazines including Traditional Home, Elle Decor, House Beautiful, Coastal Living, Good Housekeeping, Garden & Gun and Architectural Digest with appointments scheduled tomorrow with Southern Living, Country Living, Lonny Mag, Luxe and Real Simple.

Friday was a special day as U.S. Senator Kay Hagan stopped by our clients’ showrooms in support of North Carolina-based furniture manufacturers. We were pleased to host many regional and furniture trade news crews interested in covering Senator Hagan’s visit. In addition to crafting messaging, pitching media and coordinating logistics, we put the Clairemont touch on the tour by working with our clients to name a chair after Senator Hagan that was unveiled at the beginning of the media Q&A.

A Friday Favorite: York Wallcoverings

February 25, 2011January 31, 2023 Josephine ButlerBlog, Clairemont Client News, Furniture PR

This week we posted the following blog for our client, Drexel Heritage, and we just had to share it with you here, too! In a recent photo shoot with Diana Parrish, York Wallcoverings featured Drexel Heritage furniture against backdrops of eye-popping patterns, intricately designed details and beautiful colors. The photos are so captivating, we couldn’t help but feature them as our Friday Favorite. Enjoy!

Word of the Week: Architexture

What’s our favorite word of the week? “Architexture,” as coined by blogger Pretty Organized Palacewho used textured wallpaper to not only spruce up a mantle, but also fashion placemats, decorate file organizers and make over dingy lampshades.

And that’s not the only way bloggers are using this trending feature in home décor. We also love how Suzy’s Artsy-Craftsy Sitcome used textured wallpaper to create faux boiserie in this entryway.

We, too, are caught in the craze! In a recent photo shoot by York Wallcoverings, designers showcased Drexel Heritage furniture in rooms that feature some of their limited-edition textured wallpaper. The reflection from our mirrored Miriam Console illuminates the fluted glass beading of this wallcovering.

Designers also complemented this cream wallcovering with the Cloe Lamp Table from our Et Cetera collection.

We want to hear about ways that you are using textured wallpaper in your home. Is it in your bathroom? In your living room? On your lampshades or stairwell? We’re always open to new ideas!
