Companies are unveiling some pretty mind-blowing technologies at CES 2014, but we may be most excited about Whirlpool’s new line of cooktops that it says consumers can expect by 2020.Technology meets cuisine in an interactive, multi-purpose cooktop that allows its users to find recipes on Pinterest, cook dinner and then check the weather – all on the same surface.
Activated by the sound of your voice or the touch of your finger, the Whirlpool Interactive Cooktop is just another example of how technology and daily tasks are meeting to create amazing possibilities. And, with seamless integration to mobile and social media, Whirlpool is helping make cooking and entertaining even more engaging.
According to a CES Q&A with Jason Tippetts, brand studio design manager of global consumer design at Whirlpool®, “The Interactive Cooktop is all about doing what you need to when you need to, how you like to.”
What household item would you like to be social-enabled?
Although I’m not entirely sure how reading the weather on your stove cooktop will be useful, I am excited by these mind-blowing advances in technology. On my wish list? A refrigerator with a digital-vending-machine-type screen so that a tap of the door will show me all that I have (and am running low on) in my fridge and freezer. No more wasted food that gets sucked into the voids of the cold abyss, and no more wasted energy in holding the door open while I stare aimlessly inside. Further, let’s go ahead and integrate Pinterest or a social recipe platform into the door for the automatic aggregation of recipes that I could make with existing ingredients!
Wow! The advances in our technology surprises me daily. A stove with internet access isn’t something you’d think you would need. But now that I think about it, I am constantly bringing my iPad or laptop to the counter when I’m cooking to read off a recipe from the internet. This stove is going to make cooking so much easier.
